160 Words About Heavenly Music

McNair's second album release, Heavenly Music, hits hard and pounding, and leaves a ringing in your ears, but a smile on your face. Waxing more chaotic than his first more melodic release--Recycled--McNair’s lyrics still you leave you proud to be a disciple, growing up with nothing to lose, ready to enjoy yourself despite the high stakes created by the temptation of fools on the other side... and craving some Word time.
While “STEM” borrows heavily from his often conflicting influences, resulting in a wide variety of styles, he masterfully manages to refrain from sounding tacky--and there is nothing less than pure meat inbetween the lines. There is still lots of pure McNair in there as well though, including 31 pick scratches, 9 “let’s go”’s, and yes, the mariachi punk takeoff that you’ve all been waiting for. Get ready to scream your lungs out in the shower--this album doesn’t just taste good, it’s good for you, too.

Love, Joe.

Stem just totaly rocks. And I think ol' Jesse Prit had a hand in the pic scratches. how did you have time to count all the "let's go"s?

Oh and if anyone thinks his stuff is "copied", it only proves that they have been listening to stuff that isn't good for their sprits. "Proffessing to be wise, they'er FOOLS!" Ha.

Joe, would you happen to know where I can find the site for The Healing album? It seems like they changed the page and someone else hosts that domain name. I wanted to send the link to a sheep I'm following up on who is super into the political aspects of our beliefs and would love to see the video of Mr. President by Fool Moon

u guys..... all music is in a way copied from other music. theres no such thing as COMPLETELY ORIGINAL.
or did u think the system bands make all theyr music without copying and getting ideas from other places? no one learns how to make music just by "divine inspiration".
joanie did totally hit the point; at least now we have some good punk that is actually inspiring.

God Bless these guys.

hmm maybe we should start a debate about music... personally I don't think that if family musicians copy system artist then it's ok to listen to the system artists, I think that if family musicians copy System bands then you shouldn't listen to THEIR music either... I think that it is sad if Jesus has said so much about getting not just the lyrics in prophecy but also the music if family musicians then go and get ideas from outside sources. I think ppl should reread 'The Lord is calling you to Write songs", some awesome stuff in there!

But no matter what our opinions are, the most important thing is love! So if you give your opinion try to be loving about it. GBY all!

David, you seriously burden me. You think if Family musicians copy System bands, then you shouldn't listen to THEIR music either? Then what are you going to do with your ears from here out? Do you think ANY Family music is not copied? Name any style that is exclusively or originally found in the Family. Doesn't exist.

You seriously burden me.

Love, Joe.

PS
I think I shall dedicate an entire post to you.

Gosh, I hope Ukraine doesn't do this to Gio.

Making original music is easier said than done.

Debating family music is insulting to family musicians. Theres really no point in it.

At 1:35 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

A style is different from copying someone, for example, just cause you make a reggae song it doesn't mean you are copying bob marley, but if a song sounds so alike, to the point that you can sing the system 'version' to the tune of the family song (which, sad to say is the case with some songs, although they are few) then I don't think the music has a good influence on your spirit.

Obviously you haven't read the GN I mentioned, ang, cause in there the Lord asks family musicians to get music in prophecy, and in that case they wouldn't be making original music, but "recieving" it.

An awesome experience actually happened to me when I was debating about this in my head (cause personally I thought it would be impossible to get music in prophecy) when I was in bed I basically telling the lord that its asking a bit much, cause I could never do something like that, so why should we make our musicians do so. Anyway I started drifitng off to sleep and I started getting this music in my head that I swear I had never heard before in my life, I jumped out of bed so I could right it down, but it left me as quickly as it came. Quite an experience to say the least, but since I have the faith that people CAN get original music in prophecy.

I wouldn't want to insult family musicians, I think they are doing a wonderful job and I am very thankful for them. Sorry if my post seemed to say otherwise.

David.

P.S. ha, dictate a post to me... if you do, you can see my blog at daveflixz.blogspot.com I just never sign in when I post on ppl's blogs cause I don't like the hassle.

P.P.S Won't be on till April though cause of the FDTP.

Is there a song on "Heavenly music" that is alike, to the point that you can sing the system 'version'?

I would like to know myself :)

At 3:01 am, Blogger Jesse said...

That last comment was for Anonymous.

I Really would like to know, because I personally won't respect Steve as much if it is legitimately copied work.

Even though I respect him anyways for his lyrics.

I myself am into the "melodies should not be copied from other bands" trip myself.
I am personally adamantly against those who do.

Please elaborate.

Sincerely
-Jes

how about 'well i'm stupid AND CONTAGIOUS, here we are now ENTERTAIN US' translates into: 'fight it CAUSE WE DON'T LIKE IT, any desension THE INDECISION'

At 2:13 pm, Blogger Jesse said...

I don't know.. I won't stand my ground too hard because it seems like you are trying. But to me that sounds like different words.
Anonymous are there any melodies that he downright copies? Not rhythms? Or Beats per minutue?
Because here in one of my books I've read

http://www.amazon.com/How-Write-Songs-Guitar-Guitar-Playing/dp/0879306114/sr=8-1/qid=1171577199/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5971081-2481743?ie=UTF8&s=books

It mentions even taking rhythms or even the whole song structure of a song you know (mind you I am not saying melody) and making it your own, and putting your own melody & words to it. Anonymous, is that cheating?
I don't mind talking to an anonymous person because I want to make all our fans happy & know we tried hard. :)

it IS different words. it's the melody of 'smells like teen spirit' that is downright copied, line for line there. any1 come up with some more?

At 7:42 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

uh...
there was that japanese aiki song hakokara dashite that was the exact same melody of 'cut my life into peices'.
I dunno if everyone knows that song though.

What's the band's name Ai? I think I heard that song before but I can't remember who it was that sung it.

I was going to post a long, sweet, poignant comment to your "Speaking Of New Years" post, but it screwed up at the end. I'll just save it till I turn 18. Mucho love.

Guys.. Ive never heard the song smells like teen spirit, but I have heard wierd al's spoof. I dont have it now. I wasnt copying anything on purpose there. The chords are probably different. are they the same? I dont know. the groove and meter of the lyrics is completely different. Last, Thats one bridge in a whole song, in a whole album. Got anything else? cause that sure as hell dont make a copy-band. and In the end- I don't care- as long as you listen to it.-Cheers

That's Steve. I've never seen Steve own or have me listen to "Smells like teen spirit." Period.

Wheeee! How novel! How titillating! How scandalous! "Omigod-this-is-a-total-copy-of-yadda-yadda-yadda-blech!"
I'm sure no self-respecting musician's ever heard THAT one before.
Quit griping. It's old.
If it bothers you enough, turn it off.
Better yet: Stop listening to Pan's tunes so that you won't have anything to cross-reference when listening to the goodies Family musicians put their hearts into for the promotion of Jesus.
Better still: Scratch a new Godly groove in your head by listening to some heavenly music.
Kill the old associations and make yourself some new ones.
Sounds like a plan, man...

Oh I've heard that one! "AND I DON'T KNOW, WHAT I'M SAYING!" Hahah, so funny.
Ya, it's kind of true, but still. It's tripping.

Love, Joe.

Well I HAVE heard "smells like teen spirit"... and know it well.. and there is NO SONG from stem that has ANYTHING sounding even close to it..
But if there is something that sounds like a band you know... and possibly like... then all the better right..?? more of the good stuff... as long as it sounds like the "good stuff" that is... heh

"Well I HAVE heard "smells like teen spirit"... and know it well.. and there is NO SONG from stem that has ANYTHING sounding even close to it.."

Wraf I am sure you've heard lot's of music, so have I. I personally don't hear any blatant resemblance to ANY other pan band when compared with Steves writing & melodies.

Time will tell but I believe Steve pulled this album off well.

At 2:39 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I totally agree..

At 4:17 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i totally disagree with you, steve-lovers! steve is a DISGRACE, simply a REPRODUCTION machine.

double-sigh!

why, his very first song starts out with a vibrato-laden F# on the low E string, and i can swear that when i went to see that emotional blackmetal punk band play live, they started their very first song EXACTLY the same way. there is no doubt that STEVE is an IMPOSTER, a ravenous IMITATOR who has dedicated his life to stealing original tunes and making them his own. DISGRACEFUL!

At 4:22 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

NO. It's not an F# it's a C.
And the song is in Drop D. No Low E.
Double-sigh.

hahah anonymous, you should hear yourself, "STEVE is an IMPOSTER, a ravenous IMITATOR who has dedicated his life to stealing original tunes and making them his own. DISGRACEFUL!" hahahahahaha, are you actually serious or is that like sarcasim? because it's really funny. I picture a funny looking person standing on a wooden crate in a centro holding a picture of steve and saying those funky words.....hahaha, you need some woooord time.

At 4:59 am, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes, young joan, my dear. i am serious. it's unfortunate, but the gravity of what i said simply had to be that strong. steve...how can i put this...steve...is...joan, steve is a very, very bad man. beginning from a young age, he has terrorized young music-loving lives with his clamorous compositions originally obtained from honest and hard-toiling folk, and has inserted boisterous blasphemies throughout--the ungodly yelling of 'let's go', the incessant scraping of his pick against the string, the unabashed usage of the word 'yeah', and the loud screaming accompanied by his rebellious insistence on playing the F# note (one of the seven deadly sins for which God killed 10,000 Jews, the Bible warns us). Of course, we know the Bible prophecies this many times in Leviticus, and tells us of a future where punk music will reign predominantly (calling it such names as the Beast, the Abomination, and the Seven-footed-cow). No doubt we are entering into this time, here and now. Be prepared.

I don't care for punk music.
I don't care for Steve's music.

I can't imagine angels in heaven listening to either.

We cannot fathom 'heavenly music'.
Till we get there some of us try with our pitiful human resourses to create the best human music that we can.
