I'm currently in the process of downloading the album, and I'm giving it a listen right after. I must admit that I did not have very high expectations for a Family underground emo rock album; and yet, since downloading the pre-release single "Kiss Your Life Goodbye", I've been waiting impatiently for the full album's release.

It promises to be a good listen.

Wow!!

Ok this album is fine, just you guys seem to be having a hard time staying on key and the harmony is off, sorry I just had to say that, But I liked the song "shes not here" and "This side up". :D

hi there.
I know this is going to sound eeeevil,....but this album gave me a stomach ache when i listened to it.
And my friend, when she listened to it b4 going to bed, woke up with a stomach ache... Sorry dude, this album has somewhat to be desired when it comes to the inspiration level.
But, seeing as it is an underground effort, i will praise the effort.
This is going to sound uglier still: Are you like, checking these songs with the Lord? Or is it an effort to make a song "without the power thereof".
I'm still just one of the audience, so feel free to rate this comment and cut it up how you please. It's your blog.
I like one-maybe two-of the songs.

At 7:24 pm, Blogger King of the Grunts said...

OOh snap there Joe. Ask Ben I contributed 10 pesos for the effort. Beyond that, i could not do. Its the thought that counts.

Dude, the song shiver is a bit much, seriously, would you want your bride to be screaming at you in an alien-freaky-distorted voice demanding "FUCK ME!!!". If you made a MV out of this song it would scare anyone, except maybe those into sadism. keep in mind that songs like that are directed to the Lord and aren't just for our experimental fun.

Maybe I'm out of it as I didn't ask the Lord about the comment I'm making and this is just my opinion, but it would be nice to hear what the lord had to say about it.

At 12:14 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah dude.I agree.I like some of your songs, but the shiver song deffinately requires a desired taste. If you are gonna scream, you should make your self able to be understood.otherwise you're boaderline with system music.

At 8:13 am, Blogger Kirsten Ryan said...

I really like your music it's so unique, it can get better but I could rate this about 8

Lord: hahaa david and anonymous.. you guys are lame.. first of all just because the music's not all gay/pop doesn't mean it's bad okay?

David: If you made a MV out of this song it would scare anyone, except maybe those into sadism. keep in mind that songs like that are directed to the Lord and aren't just for our experimental fun.

Lord: I'm not into sadism.. i might like the music video.. I don't think any family songs that are put out should be just fer anyone's experimental fun (AMEN GAVIN?!?!?! AND YOU TOO EMANUEL!! RAHAHAHAA) anyway..

Anonymous: if you are gonna scream, you should make your self able to be understood.otherwise you're boaderline with system music.

Lord: maybe it's time to clean yer ears.. I understood the song fine.. And just because YOU can't udnerstand doesn't make it border*lining system music.. you freak!!!!
God.. how can people listen to ftts on a reguler basis and then complain about Joe's music!??!

At 2:34 pm, Blogger Kamarha said...

To anyonomous:

Well if yer not, then maybe you should reconsider yer lame posting.. and yer grammer/spelling too.. not like mine's really good.. but "BoADERline?!?!!?"...

bunch of gossipping old ladies. Everyone knows the ablums got some serious problems. But what can you do when you have a vocalist like amaranthine trying to produce? God bless your for trying thou

At 3:27 am, Anonymous Anonymous said...

and lord slash whats with picking on everyones grammar and spelling? its what their saying that counts. obviously its a lost argument for you. But everyone has their musical tastes so im sure all of these guys are fine with you liking joes great songs.

At 8:50 am, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey lord slash thanks for standing up for us heh.. and for that poast on your blogg....and all the rest of you who support our band!!!!
You guys( on the othher hand) are lame cuz you know joe's not the only one making the music here and actually that song (shiver) was kinda "shocking" to me too....but hey it's his style and atleast he has one unlike alot of ppl trying to make music out there. You know all i think is hey if you dont like the music dont download it,dont listen to it,and dont talk about it especially if your gonna talk crap about it.....whats the use?
Im not any blogger and im not part of this whole "Internet world" but im part of the band my name is Ben Dover and i wrote six of the songs and sang them too.
so that was my "point of view" on the matter.

Ben Dover.

I once saw this flash animation about web flamers, and the closing scene was a burnt, dead planet. I hope the same can't be said about our "underground" Family music. Even if you don't like the music, I think voltaire's quote applies: "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

I haven't heard the entire album through and I'm not sure if it'll grow on me or not (some do and some don't), but I sure did notice a definite improvement from other Amaranthine productions I had heard. The style isn't exactly one I've ascribed to, but at the same time it's nice to hear something different for a change.

All that to say, Joe, hope you can take the criticism with a sense of humor, and keep trying.

Wow, It's out!

Looks like you guys are getting a lot of flack for your album. Sorry about that.

Joe, you know me and that this style of music is not my favorite, but this I will say, 100% improvement from your early beginnings back in Teco.

I am glad you kept at it!

Check out my first audio/visual propuction at my blog.

Maybe I have a future in music afterall...or not!

Cheers!

yeah the singing and stuff could use some work but the album's not too bad, GBY guys...

PS
Song number 6, song number 6!!

I'd like to apologise for being a bit harsh about the comment I made, not that my opinion about the song has changed. I'd like to say that I do appreciate you guys for taking the time to put this album together, and there are some songs on there that I do like. To name a few, "Forfeit to Benefit" "This Side Up" "Kiss your Life goodbye" track 8, and of course "Family Girls Rock". You guys have done a great job, and I didn't mean to offend any adoring fans,

It wasn't the lyrics or the style of music that put me off 'Shiver', it was the mix of the two together. If the Lyrics were different I wouldn't mind the song, actually I didn't realise it was a LJ song till I read the lyrics and listened to what it was saying. oh and BTW that goes for all those songs that are Gothic/Death/Heavy/Psycadelic...etc Rock 'Love Songs' to Jesus. Well those are my 2 cents, enjoy the album guys!

-David

P.S. Song number 6 isn't to Jesus, Joe, I don't have a problem with it.

Maybe you should make a MV to Shiver joe, - haha

gosh i get a stomach ache listening to stupid arguements like this. i haven't heard your whole album yet joe/ben. but i heard some of your earlier releases that are on it, and some of them were such a refreshing change (i always like hearing new kinds of music, and you def have a dif style to my ears ;) ) and i really enjoyed them.. ;) on the other hand, i think if someone wants to make comments (that may or may not be as sweetly spoken as they could be) but that point you to the lord and encourage you to improve yourself with His help, i see nothing wrong with that. rather than people getting het up and petty about things, take it with a pnch of salt and try to learn from it, that's all i have to say.

oh...will get back to you with ratings on the rest of the songs k? GBY! muah!

Ben Dover Said: Hey lord slash thanks for standing up for us

Lord Hakola: you're Welcome! I love you guys!

Sharon said: is Ben Dover really your name?? cuz its like...."bend over"....hahaha.

Lord Slash: Hahaha Thats really funny hahahaahah now why didn't i think of that..

Anonymous said: and lord slash whats with picking on everyones grammar and spelling? its what their saying that counts.

Lord Slash: If you will read from the beginning er at least somewhere in the middle you will see that I wasn't picking on "everyone's grammar" merely I was helping the anonymous person realize why karen (kamarha - my sister) and I had mistaken this dear anonymous person fer a thirteen year old girl... As I said befer, I don't have a problem with bad grammer as you can see from my posts I obviously don't give a.. fer good grammer..

David Said: it wasn't the lyrics or the style of music that put me off 'Shiver', it was the mix of the two together.

Lord Slash: Well David these LJ songs are Fer JESUS and not fer YOU.. if you can't understand them because ther too fast paced er edgy fer yer liking then go cry about it on yer own blog. i know without a shadow of a doubt that JESUS understands the lyrics to the songs. Also if someone chooses to write a love song to Ther Lord, Husband and Savior in a musical genre that isn't yer preference (at least fer love songs) this doesn't give you the right to go spreading yer ..lameness in other peoples blogs.. I know about 80 percent of my faverite love songs are either "Gothic/Death/Heavy/Psycadelic...etc Rock" and i'm sure Jesus feels the same way I feel where if someone wrote a love song fer me - no matter what genre - I would still be very thankful fer it..

and lastly to "Carl the TRUE indonesian monkey": I'm really sorry to tell you this.. but yer posts are extremely corny.. the part about the emu and the mispelling and aghghgh yeah it was very cringe-werthy.. other than that though you seem like avery nice person! God BLESS YOU! I know it's tough being a missionary in Indonesia. I was there fer several years myself.

Well I'm glad to see some of the argumentation has subsided. I personally think everyone is entitled to their opinions of music, cuz music is very much a thing of opinion, as it expresses opinions.
But some of you freaks have to learn how to appreciate and album for all that went into it, all that it is. Just cuz it isn't your style doesn't mean you should pounce on it and tear it to shreds!
Take this as you would a TCD, we all know many of us don't like half the songs on TCDs, but we listen to them for the songs we do like, or rip them off and make compilations. And I think you should treat "Forfeit to Benefit" the same, cuz most of you here said you at least liked 1 or 2 songs, so there! If you like 1 or 2 songs, take them and leave, your decision. I personally didn't like the entire CD, but I think it was a very fine effort and took alot of work to make. Some songs I'd rather just listen to the lyrics than listen to it, becuz the song doesn't suit my style, but in the same way I would rather listen to "Marianne" by Steve McNair becuz the lyrics aren't really my cup of tea but the music and composition is great.
I think some of you ppl should look at productions with a little different perspective, it might do you good.
As for me, I'll enjoy, "She's Not Here", "Family Girls Rock" and a few others which are great Joe, good work!

Kathy: thank you soo much!

Anonymous: Ooo, I can't WAIT for your ratings.

Carl: The name "emo" is derived from the emotive style of the lyrics and music. Abbreviated from "emotional hardcore", relating to a genre of music coined due to a band's usage of emotional and personal lyrics.

Emo stands for emotional. I don't understand how you understand that the genre is supposed to be depressing (unless perhaps all YOUR emotions are depressing, in which case I apologize).
I am sorry we don't sound more like Alanis Morissette or fit your humble opinion of how you know the spirit of the Lord to be. I am sorry you feel sick and depressed, although glad that you feel at all. But I would ask you to please not blame that, or any odd stomach aches, on the music. To us, it's beautiful.
I think Carl needs a hug, along with the raving anonymous bunch. Everyone love Carl?

Abner: Thank you, I really appreciate it.

Joe.

Ever the king of controversy, Joe....heh
In listening to some of the album I was pleasantly surprised at how your music has improved and, even tho it's not all to my taste...I'm glad you guys don't let the critics get to you and you still keep making music.
We should collaborate one day....snicker. Now that could be fun
Luv ya

PS: I liked Family Girls Rock.... hehe

Ouch... the guitar riffs leave bad aftertastes in my mouth and the singing sounds kinda like Cartman from southpark when he's drunk. *eyes twitch spastically*

GBY though man, now that I listened to this album I have no reason to fear Freddie Kroger. this stuff will haunt my dreams sufficiently enough at night.

Let the eggthrowing begin again. :D
